I visited the Wikipedia Home Page today and their featured article is on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh. Cool, eh? Go read a bit about him.

I thought the real push behind Bangladesh was a 1971 cyclone that completely devastated East Pakistan. The eastern part broke away from Islamabad in the West, and formed its own nation. I didn't know Sheikh Rahman was the leader behind it, though.

that's an interesting theory... though i'm not familiar with it at all! The history is actually embedded heavily, as is often the case, in religious/cultural issues.

i was asking this bengali man the other day if bengali's hate pakistani's and he didn't really give me an answer but he did enlighten me to the fact that sheikh mujibur rahman couldav become prime minister over zulfiqar ali bhutto, except i don't know if that's really true.
