Ants live in colonies numbering the hundreds of thousands...at times being more. These miniature metropoles are excavated intricately. Some even have "air conditioner" chambers to protect the mound from overheating. Ants are extremely sociable. Humans aren't exceptional - man, they're *everywhere*. And often quite annoying. Ants are cool, and don't tie up traffic.

Ants have been doing the same thing for thousands of years and there's no innovation or progress. What works works and its not built upon, not improved, not developped.

I suppose there's a certain wisdom in that, a certain admirable quality in that constancy. However, where would you like human society to have stopped developping? Ancient times? The 1600s? Now?

Each ant has their job to do, their station in the hierarchy, and there's no hope of progressing beyond that. Is that a quality that humans are known to suffer happily under? Not really.

No wonder we get compared to sheep.

The metro stabbings has really got me reflecting on those ants.
