Do chorale! I think you'd have a great time and it would be less commitment from you time wise. Orchestra can be annoying because of the 5 hours of rehearsal a week and the face that it's every day. Do orchestra during a time when you dont have to worry about the conflict.
i know with chorale you have to pay money. so i would ask del gobbo...we have people in wind orchestra that can only make it on certain days and have to leave early too.
You only have to pay money if you're not a registered student. I think sometimes they have to buy t-shirts and stuff...but other than that its free for students. The adult members have to pay but thats it:-) I loved Chorale! But I was never in Orchestra so I can't compare:-)
You don't have to pay money for chorale if you are regustered for it. You would get to sing with the CSO and stuff on Heard stage which is cool. I think you would enjoy it because I think we are doing Beethoven's 9th next semester...I could be wrong. As far as the audition, I don't think it's that bad. He will vocalize you and see your range and tone etc. then you will have to do a little bit of sight-reading but it's tonal and easy so I'm sure you'll be fine. Go ahead and try! Hopefully I'll see ya there next semester! Oh yeah, and unless we are cramming for a concert he doesn't keep us the full time (till 9:45). Hope this helps! :)
