I'm doing a research paper for my Ethics class...all I need is a yes or no (but you can elaborate, if you wish!)

DO YOU THINK THAT DOWNLOADING MUSIC FROM THE INTERNET (aka: piracy)IS WRONG?

and for extra help: who does it benefit/hurt?

thank you!

Yes, but I guess I don't have much room to talk because I burn CD's all the time.

p.s.- GAG was great this past Monday! It never ceases to amaze me how much each week's Bible study just applies so perfectly to my life at that moment :)

yeah its morally wrong (its STEALING) no that does not mean that I dont do it. I'm a big fan of the itunes setup though where i can buy a single song for 99 cents rather than a whole cd for 20 bucks that i dont want. as for who its hurts the recording industry is the rathyer obvious and correct answer. record labels are losing over 300 million a year to pirates and this is causeing mergers i.e. sony and BMG and in the end it kicks the customer in the ass too because cd prices havent been going down as they should have been. think about it:cheaper to produce that records or tapes, produced faster, more exspensive that either or even than both combined. cd's were originalls supposed to be cheaper in the long run and they have yet to do that.

You knew I was gonna reply, didn't you... after all we all know I do it the most.

Is it against the law, yes! Is it wrong? That is up to interpretation. We all may break a law here and there, but some is rationalized. Take speeding for instance; we all speed and that is against the law. Yet most people just don't care, and sadly that is what happens in the music business, people download music all the time (me) and yet they producers pay for it... as well as the bands themselves....

The end-user benefits from downloading because they may actually like it enough to go and buy it. I have done this on numerous occassions, and yes people do it. I know several others who do.

i agree. usually i will end up buying something if i like it enough to keep it. however the irony here is that we get bitten in the butt by CD prices which could have fallen if not for the piracy.... funny how that works
