Onions are high in vitamin C (really anything with that kind of bite-- our bodies tell us we like the sting of onions/peppers/etc. because there is so much vitamin C in it). Broccoli is fantastic for calcium, iron, dietary fiber, vitamins, protein, etc. Both count if you eat them, but for different things. I think when eating these things a good way of going is to get as money colors in as possible, with green being on top.

As for allergies, I'd leave that shit alone. You can find other veggies with similar traits that don't make you sick.
