Okay, your argument about arbitrary is totally stupid and pointless and this is why I'm really frustrated that we aren't making progress on it. I feel it is difficult to counter "Well, that's arbitrary" because in my mind EVERYTHING is arbitrary in man-made systems. It is simply a matter of definition. I'll respond to the other things in time but first we have to get over this hurdle

It's pointless to say something is arbitrary unless it IS arbitrary :-). Nah, I shouldn't say that, it's unnecessarily distracting. I think you're getting too caught up in the word and not addressing my actual concern

I don't want to get into the actual argument until we can agree on the base definitions of things. You're saying "It's not arbitrary" because we are working from a given system. I'm saying "It is arbitrary because the given system was defined arbitrarily
( ... )
Okay, so this is where we disagree. "Not everything in the system or the status quo is arbitrary. "
I believe everything define in within the status quo of the system is arbitrary. I truly do. I think you can create whatever reasons you want for it... but that doesn't make it TRUE. It is still an arbitrary value. People believe I am pricing my product at X BECAUSE it will give me profit. Maybe if they priced it at y they would fail. Maybe if the priced it at Z they would become billionaires. But you know what? Regardless of all that, it is speculation. The price set at Y IS arbitrary. Nothing you can do, within this arbitrary status quo system makes it NOT ARBITRARY. It is STILL a judgement call. Sometimes it will be successful. Sometimes it won't. When it's successful people think "oh, Well... I did that right and it wasn't arbitrary". It's a myth. It's a misconception. You are using arbitrary in a place where you shouldn't. And it saddens me that I can't convince you otherwise :(
LoL. Convincing yourself of something doesn't make it so. If people were rational beings and predictable than your argument might have legs to stand on. However, it is just as likely moving gas from 3 to 10 is not arbitrary as it IS arbitrary in your system
