Yesterday while I was at work my apartment was burglarized. I got home to find my door closed, but the door frame was split in half so that nothing was really holding it that way. They didn't get all the expensive things in the place, but they sure got some good stuff. Luckily not my PC will all my data, but they did take: my laptop, my camcorder, ( Read more... )

According to the dude at Nintendo I talked to when I called, no, because of their privacy policy he claims they don't have a way to trace a particular Wii's usage. I can't imagine that they couldn't, but I understand if they choose not to have their software log or report enough information to do it, and I don't suppose my Wii is worth them modifying their server (and breaking their privacy policy). It would be good PR, though, "Wii recovers stolen property." He did say they'd flag it so that if anyone tried to register that serial number they'd call me.

Wow, sorry to hear about this man. I hope the insurance company doesn't give you too much of a hard time with replacing things. At least you didn't get hurt or anything. And it's probably a good reminder that possessions and gadgets ultimately don't mean that much in the scope of life.

My dad was robbed at (shot)gun-point a few months ago, in the cozy suburbs of Connecticut. It's a scary world out there...sometimes.
