So on failblog usually on any given item there's like 70 comments. On this one (http://failblog.org/2010/01/06/field-trip-fail/) about a parent not wanting their child to go to a geology museum because they are creationists, there are over 2200 comments, last I checked

I think that's exactly why they voice their opinions, though. Without a clear socially accepted standard, the two sides feel compelled to fight over it in order to win over more people to their way of thinking.
