You want a granite reference block, found at a machinist's shop near you. Mark up the sole with machinist's blue marking ink or just use a sharpie and make it black. Add water to the surface, not too much, slap down a sheet of 220gr sandpaper, and make a few passes. Note where it isn't black anymore. These are the low points. At this point, you'll realize that if you continue, you'll be eaten by a grue ... no, wrong story. At this point, you'll realize that if you continue, your sole will no longer be square to the sides of the plane. But you don't care - that's why you have a jointer. Continue lapping (or if the differences are severe, back down in grit) until the sole is shiny and not-black again. Then work your way up into automotive sandpapers until the sole is as shiny as you wish.

Repeat for the back of your plane blade.

Sharpen your plane blade, using your favorite method. Note that you could use the sandpaper in its higher grit ranges.
