Where do you draw the line between a close friend and a "best" friend? How about significant other? Is it physical intimacy (which I can't believe because of so-called 'loose' people, who don't place sentiment with physical act) or emotional intimacy (which I can't believe because that's how I'd hope you treat any of your close friends ( Read more... )

For me, I make best friends immediately or over time. There's a certain feeling that goes beyond just caring about someone that draws you to a person. It makes me feel as if I don't have to hide anything from that person. It says to me, "There is no doubt about this at least." And usually, it seems to be a mutual feeling.

Emotional intimacy is fine; one of my best friends frequently is so distant we barely speak though.

Physical intimacy is wonderful too; but on the same levels, there are people I'd gladly offer a hug to but who would never trust me with deep, dark secrets unquestioningly.

As for significant other, 'that's a whole 'nother ballgame.'
