I personally am very happy with the plot of POTC ending as it did in AWE.
Even though I love to read historical romances and would agree that having Jack be with women, not just Elizabeth, would be absolutely priceless, it's not in the best interest of Disney and it's pursuit of family rated films.
Jack has been adament through out the entire POTC trilogy, that his first and only love is the sea.
"Sail the seas forever."
"Now Bring me that horizon."
"What the Black Pearl really is, is freedom."
"There'll be no living with her after this" notice, he didn't say LOVING her...
When Jack was holding the compass on the dock in DMC..."It points to the thing that you want most"...it did not point to Elizabeth at all...never did!
So there you have it in a nutshell, a peanut that is...
Well, notice again that this post that you've responded to was written well before AWE came out and was comprised of mostly of guess work.
Second, I am actually satisfied with the ending of AWE, if you've read my latest entry as it stood in the film. I think I'm one of the few Sparrabethers who actually liked it.
Though I disagree with your interpretation, ultimately it's semantics isn't it? The ending was ambiguous enough that you can have it the way you like it, and I choose to have fresh roasted peanuts.
