Wow……
I think I’ll use the scorecard to make my initial point about this test match:
India: 148
England: 486
India: 94
England win by an innings and 244 runs.
England win the series 3-1.
Who would have seen that coming? Anyone predicting that just after Lords would have been condemned as an overly optimistic fool, but England kicked themselves up the backside, dragged each other out of the hole they had fallen into to and got back to playing and enjoying their cricket the way they used to. They are playing for each other and it really shows. This may be a young team but there is so much potential (and even more if we don’t get ahead of ourselves!)
This match was a mad rush of Indian wickets falling (in both innings) and a very strong batting and bowling performance from England.
Every single member of the England team played exceptionally well (Robson may have not taken his opportunity with the bat but that catch he took to get rid of Dhoni was worth it) but I want to shine the spotlight on ‘man of the match’ Joe Root, for one main reason:
Joe Root made 149* in his one innings.
The entire India squad (all eleven players) together made 148 in their first innings.
An extraordinary series that ended in a 3-1 win for England and all three of those wins coming in dominant, spectacular form.
Onto an action packed six months of ODI cricket before the next lot of Tests in April.
Who is going to be picked for the ODI squad?
Can they build on the momentum created by their Test Team?
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. There is still a lot to learn but I am so proud and thrilled for the England team and I cannot wait for the next match to see what happens next.
Onwards and upwards boys! Your fans are with you.
Roll on Monday 25th!
