I've been playing it for about a month now. My first world was done on Peaceful, because I preferred to build without having to watch my back, but I've gone and started up a new world on Easy mode, and I actually think it's helped me to build better structures because now I'm thinking about defending myself at night. Also it's made me tense and jumpy as hell when I go down below. So far I haven't died, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time before a Creeper manages to get the better of me.

It's an interesting game alright. I think it's got the right mix of requiring the player to plan ahead vs creative aspect.

I was thinking just the other day that it'd be neat to have a multiplayer server just for recreating the otakuwars landscape/landmarks in.

I'm guessing that the reason it went down is because it got wanged?

Probably a safe assumption. :) That said, a number of sites have been doing previews of it lately, including Rock Paper Shotgun, so I think it's been a combined "everyone becoming aware of it at once" sort of thing.

If you haven't played it, give it a shot. The client's up on the website atm, so grab it and just put in any old name/password when it asks. Supposedly authentication is disabled until tomorrow.

I started watching a Let's Play of it and, yeah, I think I'll be getting this. The guy said it was something like 8 or 9 euros, which I think is around $10, so I'll probably just buy it when the site comes back up.

It looks really interesting, in a Dwarf Fortress sort of way (except the graphics are way better).

9.95EU is 13US, or at least that's how it worked out when I bought it.
