I was at the zoo yesterday! If you caught either of the bird shows, I was there. Like when Pierre jumped off his perch and a little kid ran toward him, that was me standing there thinking, "Ahh, little kid! Get away!" But then Pierre was very nice about flying back to the stage all by himself, crisis averted. Which reminds me...I really should tell more ppl that if they want a tour of the birds of prey mews, I can give one. Tho now I will probably only attract the bird nuts, heh (yes, we have hawks, owls, an eagle...even rats!).

I have to politely disagree with you about the whole "animals in cages" thing. Zoos are more than just places with animals locked up in cages for the public to gawk at. The main function of many zoos, and the Oregon Zoo in particular, is to participate in breeding programs and research studies of endangered species, such as the golden lion tamarin. These zoos spend huge amounts of funding on studying species, raising them in captivity, preparing them for release, and then releasing them into a native habitat to supplement the wild population. Zoos are also great places for educating the public about all the things that live on Earth and why they might be worth keeping. If you want to have that "zoos are bad because it's animals in captivity" opinion justified, go to a Japanese zoo. Their zoos are old-school cement and metal bars with animals pacing back and forth, as opposed to carefully constructed enclosures that look like the animal's natural habitat. Now that's depressing ( ... )

you're so smart. it was actually just this lone incident where i had to see this poor, horrible turtle in this little box. it would have been happier dead.

but those giraffes looked happy as hell. i take it back. i'm sorry to all you zooites!

How the fxck were you at the zoo without me seeing you???????
This really irks me.

Like....uber amounts. Narrr.
Oh yeah. And I do agree with you about the animals in cages thing. Fortunatelly, some of the animals there were raised illegally by wierd people who think they can raise tigers and stuff, or injured or whatever. Also, they do a lot to help with endangered species, like the Golden Lion Tamerins, which were nearly extinct, so they raised them and then released them into the wild. I sound like a nature program now, so i'm going to shut up.

I can only speak for myself, but I care about the lemon cooking class, because it tells me there is hope in the world--that there are teenagers actually going out and doing stuff this summer, not just lazing about the house like me. Twice this week, Sophie, I've gotten up at 3 in the afternoon. You are an inspiration to wake up at 12:30 instead.

I went to the zoo for my second birthday with my friend Chevigney (who is THE MOST GORGEOUS PERSON EVER!) after the doctors took out all my blood, because I had some weird disease, apparently left over from when I had been a seventy year old man because usually only seventy year old men get it. That is my zoo story, that and the time my friend Alex and I went to the zoo and it was the last time I saw him. He was a lot taller than I am, so he stood in a hole when we talked. I love you and your yellow dress, and you need to come to the drive in movie, I am making Charlie a cake because it is his birthday tomorrow (the 17th).
