Not surprised, if someone chose to import pedigrees, they should take care of their own pets when it falls sick.
Don't expect to label us as "cheapstock, local breed or strays" and want us to help.

Of course, locals are bred to become hunting dogs or milking cows. Occasionally thrown a dog biscuit and expected to be grateful.
Next thing you know, you will have to pay with your fur, your hide, your blood.

Expendables.

Pedigrees on the other hand are prized, but still not entirely indispensible, they can always get another if it's not worth their while to take care of a defect.

Actually, if you wish to donate then donate by all means. There is really no point dragging this ah tiong issue. I guess people would agree that doing a good deed have nothing to do with nationality isnt it?

Personally, I am alright with foreign talents although there are a handful who abused our good wills. Its just part and parcel of life as you cant be expecting everyone of them to be saint right ?

To me, by debating on nationality issue will only worsen the relationship between local students and foreign students especially china scholars which isnt idea for our push as a global education hub.

Well, i suppose if more Singaporean are giving birth and working hard enough, we would have enough people to sustain our economy growth and there wont be need to rely on importing foreign talents.

Just my 2 cents worth. =)

If you are a guy, I hope you can say the same one day when your PRC classmate in NUS got the job instead of you. Not because he had better grades, but simply because you are liable and will disrupt work for ICTs and he will not. =)

Have you actually calculated how much one needs to get married (reception, banquet, photos, honeymoon), have a child (hospitalisation, baby care and the subsequent years of grooming and education), get a roof (some basic 3room pigeon hole)?

I'm talking about comfortable, doesn't even have to be luxurious, just providing a decent roof for one's family.

It's not quite within the average person's reach without a 20-30 year loan, unless you are saying that lifetime debts is part of one's life, a norm. If it's beyond one's basic means, better off single than to have the entire family driven out of their home when they can't meet up with their instalments. Why implicate another person, why bring children out to suffer ( ... )

Hmm, maybe soon it will be known as China Powers instead of SP Services (Singapore Power).

I can imagine people going:

"Look, Huang Xiaoming was a weakling who killed himself because he was unwilling to take hardship. Singapore is meritocratic and there are scholarships and bursaries available to Singaporeans for their study. If they have to take a loan, so be it. What to do if he couldn't find a proper job because he was edged out by more talented people. It's not the government's business to find him a job."

But then, the issue is a public policy issue. Who knows what kind o person the Ah Tiong is like? Whether we want to donate money or not, we don't have to be harsh with him... Then again, the people who were really nasty with their remarks represent a significant number of Singaporeans. TNP is spicing things up again. Eventually, if it gets more attention, it will be Singaporeans who get it. It will become an issue of "Petty Singaporeans refuse to help China boy because of prejudices" and the spin goes on. I can almost hear a minister coming out to tell people not to engage in the politics of envy and whatnot.

Charity begins at home, the Singapore govt is treating it's own people like dirt, $290 is more than enough for an unknown PA welfare scheme, according to that Vagina Balacheebye minister. Whereas these fucking Chinaman are paid to study here for free.

There is simply no business of ours to be charitable to these fucking Chinaman leeches.

"You want a hawker, foodcourt or restaurant meal?"
Seriously, he is out of touch with the ground talking from his Ivory Tower.
I like that new name you gave him though. :p

"Petty Singaporeans refuse to help China boy because of prejudices"

It has already started, next day on TNP was this guy and his daughter who benefitted from some Ah Tiong's marrow donation.
