Also, re: 32... I saw in some drama a long time ago that tracing the kanji for "person" (人) on your hand and licking it off is a Japanese way of dealing with nervousness. No idea how accurate that is, though. :x

the thing about 32 makes a lot of sense! Before he went up there he kept telling the camera man that there was no point to film him because he was gonna do it perfectly without mistakes (that was a blatant LIE haha)

and now that you mention it I think I've heard that superstition before, so.. :D

You don't lick it, you "swallow" it. The action makes you take a deeper breath, thereby calming nerves. It's still a superstition, but it's got a solid base :)
