Aberdeen - Gina's Story Part I

Jun 11, 2010 23:40

As some of you know, I'm in the process of attempting to write a book. The story follows a family of five siblings, the Aberdeens, and their loves over the span of a number of years. What I'm posting now is simply a first draft of many to come, and only one of potentially ten pieces of the whole story. First up: Gina McCormick. Enjoy.

Gina's Story - Part I

“You know everyone's talking Gina. You can hardly keep this a secret.”

Throwing my papers into my bag, I glanced up at Alison.

“Who said I was trying to? Let them talk. When have I ever cared about what they all think?”

She looked so flabbergasted it was nearly funny. Nearly.

“That's the point! Quiet, shy little outsider Gina McCormick is dating Martin Aberdeen! It's probably the biggest news to hit town since...well..." She paused. I knew she was thinking about it. Everyone thought about it. You'd never expect an incident like that in our quaint little town, but it had happened. Of course, people in a small town have trouble moving on and minding their own business. "You know it's big!”

I sighed. Telling the story, or at least the public version got old.

“We met, chatted, became friends, fell in love. End of story.”

She rolled her eyes at me, giving up for now it seemed. It was Friday, and I was not about to let the gossip-hungry masses ruin my day. Though, walking out to the parking lot would hardly kill the chatter. If anything, it would fuel it.

Why?

Because every Friday afternoon, if you wandered out to our school's parking lot, you'd see a dark haired man leaning up against the passenger door of a black Audi. After a while a dark haired girl would approach, he'd kiss her lightly before opening the door for her. She'd climb in and the car would speed off down Highway 34.

That dark haired man is Martin. That dark haired girl is me.

All anyone wanted to know was how little bookworm Gina ended up with one of the hunky, uptown, swimming in cash Aberdeen brothers without anyone catching wind before they decided to make it public. Most didn't even know I knew anyone outside our small little town. Oh, how little they knew. Thank God graduation was in just a few weeks. For now, I had my Fridays to keep me sane.

Well, every Friday starting about four months ago, after the incident. And truthfully, there were some Fridays he couldn't make it.

But I understood. He had his reasons.

I trusted him. I'd trust him with my life. He'd already saved it once.
