The new Flash Gordon

We watched the new Flash Gordon pilot on Scifi last night, and I'm not sure if I like it or not. As a reimagining it wasn't too bad, as the episode seemed to mostly set up the rest of the show, but one thing really struck me: I don't like the new take on the villain, Ming the Merciless. I was very disappointed...I thought they keep the spirit of the original and just update the effects, but it just took itself too seriously. That might work for BSG, but Flash gordon was always just meant as fun.

Ming was terrible and not threatening at all, and its not looking like any of the classic Flash Gordon races like the Hawkmen or the Clay People will be this series.

I don't get the point of him hopping back home and then back to the other world. There's no big sense of struggle. It doesn't seem important for him to fight Ming at all.

I prefer the version with Queen music.

I really hope they lose the ability to warp in between worlds pretty fast...Like maybe ming can steal it and attempt to invade Earth...i dunno
