Some science fiction cliches need to die

I watch a lot of sci-fi, and I can usually get into just about any sci-fi show especially if it is a space opera or cyberpunk show. No matter what show you can think of there has always been at least one instance where the main characters go to some remote planet and you start to realize that this planet could really double for the turn of the ( Read more... )

There is a very simple reason this keeps happening...TV is a BUSINESS. Given one week and 2000 dollars to come up with fifty alien costumes, what would you do...raid the costume department's wardrobe for leftovers from the last epic the studio shot and embellish them with some alien bling, or design a whole new alien culture, fashion sense and clothing line from scratch?

Sure, we'd all prefer to see something new. But the studios would prefer to have the show done on time and on budget, so guess what you get?

Once again I even said that I don't mind Nazi-like cultures say ones with alien bling...Not honest to god -- from Germany space Nazis..

just in case anyone missed my point I LOVE the archetype, but not the literal people.
