July 19th- a little more than week after they left Budehuc.

The stars were bright tonight, Shoon observed as he looked up at them. It was a warm night; he was stretched out on his sleeping bag, wearing a pair of sleeping shorts his boots near his head, his clothes packed at the bottom of his bag and tomorrow’s set at the top. The night air felt pleasant on his skin as cool and gentle breezes swept the Grasslands. It had been awhile since he had been camping under the open stars. Not since he had fled the Southlands, almost a year ago, or thirty, depending on how you looked at it. He had just turned sixteen, and his seventeenth birthday was coming up on him in a few months.

And stopped thinking about that and stretched again, arching his back to crack it. Best not to think about birthdays too much. They never did much for him, other than give him a sense of pride for have survived in the world yet another year. He turned on his side to grin at his travelling companion. “This is a night isn’t it? A little on the warm side, but it’s a new moon and all the stars are out.” He felt his face flush a bit. Stars, really? Was he really talking about stars? How girly was that?

He flipped back on his back and then asked, “When do you want to be back to Budehuc by?”
