Nada is probably my favourite bar in Stockholm at the moment. Largely cause the music there's fantastic but partly cause I've got a big crush on one of the barmaids. I actualy had a great evening out there, on Tuesday. It's been a while since I was out in the week and it's been a while since I had a genuinely good time whilst out. I miss meeting ( Read more... )

Did Lola get to ask why the night watch wasn't very good?
I bet the swedish grandma was there! She's always going to lesbian book-related stuff. Was there anyone drinking tea from a flask?

Neither Lola nor I have got round to reading Night Watch yet so...
Is it not very good, you're the first person I've heard say that, but then I've only heard about it from two people.

Lola may have mentioned tea drinking grandmas but I might well have stopped listening by that point. Who is she?

Ah Heroes! Here, they've been calling it the Biggest Show in America and as the only other two shows which have recd that honour are The Bold and The Beautiful and General Hospital - I really couldn't resist watching it. Why do I have a nasty feeling that its not going to last as long as The Bold?

If talks are really your thing then maybe you should come down to Jypore for The Literary Festival.Apparently free cookies and coffee + Salman Rushdie on Shilpa Shetty is the new polo. And you don't need to wear a hat or arrive in a Rolls. You won't even have to bother with taking your British accent out of the storage closet for the occasion as the rest of the people attending would feel obliged to do...

Oh I doubt it'll last that long five years max probably. Still I do like it very much - it's very silly but it's good fun.

Speaking of which, if I could teleport like that cute Japanese guy, then I'd be at the Jypore Literary festival faster than you could say "bending time and space", still I can't so I'll just have to dream. In my dream I think I'll choose to be an aging Dame in white and a really fancy hat, being driven round in Rolls - precisely because I don't have to.

Yeah I can really imagine you saying -
"Oh Glenda, Glenda look a camel! Oh dear I rather think it winked at us..."
Glenda - "Blinked?"
" Winked dear, winked - I really shouldn't have worn my white chiffon, these oriental camels really have no sense of propriety. Oh I do wish I worn my gren crepe..."
Glenda - " Well surely there won't be camels at the literary festival? I think they rather favour elephants, you know, like Salman..."
" Are you quite sure, dear, about the camels? Oh I really think the crepe would've been right..."

Funny you should mention Sarah Waters. I've always thought she's cool, and a really great writer (much better than Joanne Harris). Ive just bought her latest paperback (The Night Watch).

Yeah, I think that's what interested me at first - I saw her in an interview and she seemed really cool and really nice. I don't know Joanne Harris. Is she worth reading?

Yes, she wrote Chocolat and others like Blackberry Wine, Five Quarters of th Orange, Holy Fools, although my favourite was Sleep, Pale Sister... It's chicklit, really, very girly. All quite light. Not sure if she'd be your thing.

Good work on the nicotine.

Not Before Sundown is brilliant isn't it? Glad you're enjoying it.
