25 was just me being arbitary - really I meant anyone who grew up with memories of the classic series.
The flaw in my argument, as you point out, is that I have a hard time believing that I'd not have been a "reader" even without Doctor Who - so you're right perhaps it draws literary people to it. I was so in to my own line of reasoning that i couldn't see that....

You should definately read the About Time stuff. I've got two copies of About Time 2 (an over enthusiastic Amazon), you can have my spare next time I see you.

I can given half a chance get a bit intellectual over Harry and why, brilliant childrens books that they are, it also has much to offer those of us who weren't fortunate enough to have them around to read when we were eight years old. It seems quite fitting to me, then, that JK Rawlings provided the words to finish off the witches - an act that was started by Shakespeare. And I loved the way the doctor referred to her as JK - as if they were old friends. Imagination, as well as words were being celebrated ( ... )

Salman Rushdie of all people alive today is probably the best man with words. he's not my favourite writer or anything but he really does have a strange power with them.
that's a great quote - and it is kinda sad when you think about it like that.

I'm with you on HP - well deserving of the Doctor's recognition I feel
