Thoughts: Martin is still the greatest storyteller of the age. I know I'm prone to hyperbole, but I mean it: I've read this book already (two years ago? Three?) and he still had me hanging on every word. I spent twenty minutes over sushi with Dad the other night trying to talk him into giving these a shot; I may have finally succeeded. (He's not usually one for swords-and-sorcery.) My favorite thing about Martin's work is that my heart keeps switching who it is cheering for. So many characters to love, so little time (and the best of them also give me reasons to despise them). Such great storytelling, such a captivating world. I'm totally psyched to launch right into the third book (again).
