Things we learn from the Tudors

twelveoaks and I have been watching "The Tudors." Other than a few GLARING Historical Innacuracies (they misteriously edited out one of King Henry's Sisters and therefore Neither Mary Queen of Scots or the future King James will ever be born!) its not BAD historical fiction. There is plenty of eye candy. They get most of the characters right (although they ( Read more... )

I love that show. Horrible costuming, so much bad acting, and never mind that King Henry is hot and in his 20s the WHOLE SHOW, but definitely delicious eye candy.

We love this series (much like we loved Rome and Deadwood). I normally don't sweat hyper historical accuracy as long as the overall themes, conflicts, story arcs are relatively accurate and tells a good story ( ... )

BTW other great character story arc's away from the "main stage" (Henry) in the series is that of the Ambadassor himself Ustasis (though he doesn't get a lot of air time), Mary, Moore (one of my favorites), Cromwell and the Duke of Suffolk, who is also age-modified to increase Teh Sexy but has an interesting arc as the King's "go-to" guy over his lifetime, and what it does to him.

I think that you have to have both suffering and joy to fully appreciate God.

What problems did you have with your church that made you stop tithing? (if it's super personal, you don't have to tell, but I was just curious as I was under the impression that you were a fairly religious fellow)

It is largely the Church's stance on Homosexuality, but also Abortion, Birth Control, how to deal with Child Molesters among the Clergy, and to a degree the Ordination of Women.

I have found myself largely out of communion with the Catholic Church. Maybe I should go post some theses on the door or something.

For varying degrees of "Work."

Add ecumenism to the list. JP II was really into trying to bring the Lutherans and Episcopals back to the Church. Benedict's "Protestant Churches aren't real Churches" didn't help that much.
