If he had know there was something off, he might have rethought the approach, turned around and gone back the same way he had just come from. But on a ordinary day, one where he and Ray weren't on poor terms, there was no need for that.
"Lose a contact?" Asher asked. He knew Ray didn't wear them, but from the way he was concentrating on the ground, one might have thought differently.

"C'mere," he beckoned, even as he walked over to Asher himself. He knew what he did next wouldn't get the best welcome, but he had to check. It seemed hearing the truth from Danica left him with more questions than before.
He started to unbutton Asher's jacket without preamble. He knew he was packing; he could tell by the slight unevenness of the material, but he needed to see the gun with his own eyes.

"What are you doing? Broad daylight, public place, sand." The first two Asher might have been able to square away with, but the idea of sand in unwanted placed was and always would be the deal breaker.
