Here's my latest AMV! Once again, it's a GX video, and it's the one I talked about in a recent entry. It's about Fujiwara Yusuke and his severe psychological issues, and it's to a song called When I Go Away by Levon Helm. Please have a look and let me know what you think. Youtube messed up the timing by a half-a-second, but I think it's alright. ( Read more... )

I have attempted to expand my musical horizons on many occasions. I've had to listen to more country songs than I care to remember, and I didn't like any of them. At best, I said "Meh" about them, but that was because they sounded to be almost as rock as they were country. At the worst, they made me feel like I had a colony of putrid mole rats living in my entire digestive tract, and the feeling only went away after listening to some classic rock. My dislike of country isn't about me being hard set on liking a particular genre. It's a matter of aesthetics, and the aesthetics of country music are sickening.

Well, at some point I may have to get a computer with Final Cut Pro on it. If that day comes, I've got a handy little book from my Post Production class that's a great reference guide for how to use it. You could also give me the mostly-edited videos you make after choosing shots and timing etc. and leave it to me to fix the little things like lip flaps and other things that would require layers.

Love you too.

That is a very colorful way of describing your dislike. XD; I meant that in more general terms--it's true that you could stand to have more experience with different kinds of music, but I'll believe you when you say you've heard more than enough country to know you don't like it. Personally, I like some country music--not that "my girl ran over my truck with my dog" type stuff that all sounds exactly the same. But I like Levon Helm, I like the Dixie Chicks, I like Johnny Cash, and I like Willie Nelson. Along with rock and punk rock and obnoxiously sappy seventies music, it's what I grew up on.

I'd prefer to learn it myself if I'm going to do it at all, unless we decide to start with that it's going to be a joint project, but who knows, maybe one day I'll ask you to do that. XD; There are a few ideas I have that I can't pull off with my current skill set, after all.

Eeee, I love that song!

Obviously, have no clue about the fandom, but it's just the kind of AMV I like in terms of sync and matching of images with lyrics. The sense of an unfolding story and different moods is really strong.

Ah, have you heard it before, or is this your first time? I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I was absolutely thrilled with it the first time I heard it. Sparked a debate amongst my family members, too. Mom thought it was a happy song and I thought it was incredibly depressing.

Thank you! Yeah, one of my main objectives when I make a video is that it ought to tell a story of make some kind of point. In this case its meant to tell the whole story arc of Fujiwara (dude with green hair). The lyrics are related to his life, though of course not precisely. I'm really glad this worked for you even though you didn't know the fandom.

No, I haven't heard it before, so it was a nice surprise to discover it! I can see why it sparked debate, too - it seemed like the lyrics could be interpreted as happy or... creepily about death or something *she said intelligently*

I really like AMVs that do that story-arc thing so please, do keep making them :D
