Birthday Missed Adventures

I know ... I know. I'm not supposed to be posting today. To protest ... what? LJ's policies or some crap. Who cares? If you are upset, then come back and read this tomorrow and you'll feel all better! :)

It has been a busy week or so since last we spoke, faithful reader. Let's see...

Thursday was witness to an astoundingly futile act of machismo. Two guys got into a fight - an honest, punches thrown, grappling and rolling on the floor, FIGHT - at my laundromat. It was ridiculous. All over a phone call. See, Guy #1 was upset that Guy #2 was talking on his bluetooth headset. "We can hear you, asshole, and we don't care!" And, sure ... Guy #2 was talking at a normal, full voice. So, yes ... negative points for group dynamics. But ... asshole? Really? Seems a little much for a guy on the phone. But then, Guy #2 needed to respond with flipping Guy #1 the bird. At which point, Guy #1 comes stomping over to Guy #2 (a location that is about 10 feet away from where I was sitting when this conversation began - a location I quickly vacated as hostilities ensued) and just smacks Guy #2 upside the head, knocking off said headset. It was almost surreal. None of that initial guy confrontation, no posturing ... just WHAM!

Luckily, the manager of the laundromat was there - cops were called, by him, by me, by the lady across the room. And surprisingly, the squad car rolls up like 90 seconds later. (No, it is not a shady laundromat - although that would be kind of cool. A mobster laundromat. Best place to clean out bloodstains and remove incriminating evidence.) Two rather burly looking West Hollywood sheriff's deputies came in, broke up the fight, cuffed 'em both and took 'em away. It was an interesting way to break up the monotony of laundry.

Friday - nothing much. Wake. Work. Eat. Sleep. You know - the mind-numbing routine of the worker-bee.

Saturday was the beginning of the birthday activities. Indulged myself with a tasty home-made breakfast, drove along the coast and into the twisting mountains in The Jeep, and then got together with Morgan, Gillian, Hugh, Kristy and Isaac to attend, once again, The Roller Derby. Once again, I can only HIGHLY recommend that you seek out any local opportunity to catch this extravaganza. Hot chicks, violence, loud music, alcohol - it is a white trash bonanza! Then an evening of drinks and socialization.

Sunday and Monday brought on an orgy of laziness. I slept in late. Ate cereal and watched cartoons, episodes of NCIS and CSI, enjoyed the comfiness of my robe and general made a slug of myself. Kristy and I made a little journey to a gallery/book store that specialized in the art from children's books. I was sorely tempted to pick up a couple of pieces, but luckily the practical fact that I'm low on wall-space saved my credit card from being pulled out.

Tuesday was the day of adventure. In honor of my square birthday (6^2) I had booked "tickets" to THE PRICE IS RIGHT. What better way to celebrate than to win ... A NEW CAR! But, alas, since it is spring break week out here, Kristy and I ended up getting 122 & 123 on the STAND-BY list. Damn. I guess showing up at 7:30am wasn't good enough. So, later that day, we try again - this time for THE LATE LATE SHOW. Again - no go. Damn college kids. So, instead it was a lovely evening of tasty food (the turkey chili at Swingers is excellent, as is their Jerk Caesar Salad) and drinks (martinis are YUMMY!)

Refusing to fail, Wednesday found me once again holding ticket to THE LATE LATE SHOW, and after an aborted lunch attempt with Morgan, we were back at CBS studios. And this time ... success! I know it is cheesy but it was fun to watch the show being filmed. I'll have to remember it as a possibility when I have visitors. All together, it took 2 hours to line up, listen to the "zany" warm-up guy, watch the taping and then file out. Then back home for some tasty Italian sausage and pasta, a viewing of SHOOT 'EM UP (thumbnail review: live-action cartoon!) and then beddie-bye.

So there you go. A full week of birthday goodness. Hot damn!
