[OFA] Backup

Ashley collects Leia and slips into Henry's room. She wants to talk to him about the whole teleporting thing first and she doesn't want to do it in public. The puppy cuddles against her side and rests her head on her paws. Ashley scratches behind her ears and waits for Henry to come home

Henry rolls over, setting down his comic book and grinning at her. "Hey you," he murmurs.

Ashley gently drops Leia onto the big padded doggie bed she shares with Han. Tucking her hair behind her ear, she sits on the edge of Henry's bed.

"Help me?"

She rubs her face. not what she wanted to say.

"Break your laptop?" he asks jokingly until he realises she actually seems upset. Rolling over, he rubs her thigh. "What's up? Break Mum's china again?"

She smiles a little but shakes her head. "You know the thing that's been bothering me that I tried to work out on my own?" She shakes her head again.

[wolftechguy]

"That," he raises his eyebrows and rolls so his head is in her lap. "Maybe I can help. I've had problems I didn't want to talk about it, and you helped me. Think it's that dating thing or something."

Ashley runs her fingers through his hair.

"It's big and I have to tell mom. I think I might need you as my backup on this one."

[wolftechguy]

"Mom I have pink hair big or mom I'm possibly going to destroy the world big?" he asks, still trying to be lighthearted. "You know I've got your back, always. Just as long as she doesn't yell too much."

She appreciates he's got her back. She's damaged now though, and she hopes he won't leave. She hopes she won't make him leave somehow.

"Mom I've got brain damage and might make me go crazy and start killing people and there might not be anything anyone can do to stop it, big."

[wolftechguy]

"Ash," he sits up, nearly nuzzling her in shock. "You okay? Head doesn't hurt?" He puts a hand on her shoulder. He gets what it's like to have a monster inside.

"Look. I'm scarey. I can handle it," he rubs his hand down her hair. "Is it like your dad's?" Yes, that would be scary.

She leans in against him. "I teleported away from Raya during the fight. Just the once. Druitt saw. I didn't want to tell anyone. He said he'd be quiet if I scanned myself. It- it was different. The scan. From last time mom did one." She's shaking a little.

[wolftechguy]

"Okay," he says softly, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "Okay. You're still you. We'll tell your mom now, not however long it took Druitt to tell her and you'll stay you because your mom's a genius."

Ashley hates that this terrifies her so much. She's okay with Henry, admitting she needs him, but she still hates feeling this helpless.

"Two years, he said. What if I only have two years before I'm not me?"

[wolftechguy]

"You won't," he says, kissing her head. "You won't even be not you. You're Ashley and I'm keeping you."

He cant really think about it past that. "Besides, it's not like you're alone. You're surrounded by people who will protect you."

She smiles a little at the keeping part. She's totally okay with that since she feels the same way about him. He sounds more confidant than she feels at the moment which helps. A little. Ashley wraps her arms around him and hugs him tight for a bit.

"Thanks."

"It'll be okay," he reminds her. He has to believe it. "It'll be fine. We'll sort it out."

He keeps hugging her, but he's curious. "Can you still do it? The 'bamf' thing?"

She shrugs a shoulder. "I haven't tried. I really don't want to go crazy." Ashley sighs. "I think I can though."

except for the whole crazy-brain-damage-Miss-whitechapel thing, it would be a neat ability. She's a little surprised, and grateful, druitt doesn't use it more offensively.
