"Labor is a very complicated cooperation of many factors--fetal, maternal, hormonal, and mechanical. One thing alone won't necessarily push a woman into labor, including "stripping membranes." What your doctor is talking about is essentially just an aggressive pelvic exam in which he will feel around just inside your cervix where the membranes ("bag of water") are attached to its rim. By running an examining finger around the inside of your cervix, he can separate the amniotic sac from where it's stuck there. Theoretically, this will allow the bridging molecules that stick the membranes to the inside rim of the cervix to break--all at a molecular level, mind you--and so be released and then converted into prostaglandins, which are powerful stimulants of labor."
I'm not quite sure what stripped your membranes means either.
As for having to explain your mother's behavior... been there (am still there) with other family members. We're not accountable for other peoples' actions, nor should we have to explain them. I don't know what you can do to resolve that matter, but if you find out clue me in because I could use the advice. For now, hugs and hold on.
Is this the same female dr. you havn't been comfortable with? Because there is no proof that stripping a woman's membranes helps, and it can actually introduce infection if done improperly.
Not to mention, I can't see (after reading some literature), how anyone could do that accidently. Stupid dr. *big hugs*
It was a new doctor that I'd never seen before which made it more shocking than if it had been my regular one. I mean, going in to someone who doesn't know me or my history and having her casually do that.... that's pushing it. Karen doesn't like her either which is interesting.
So far it hasn't worked to my knowledge. I'm losing a bit of my mucus plug, but I don't think that's directly related.

I just wish my mother was normal and happy about my being married and pregnant and not such a fucking bitch, but I guess that's ridiculous of me.
How are you doing?
