Ashley had been expecting to see Kate and Dean, but they'd never shown up. She wondered if they'd left for some more hotel-room nookie or if they'd just retreated to Kate's room

Kate had plopped down on her bed, staring at the ceiling listlessly while she went over the long string of events that had led to the argument in the foyer.

She sucked at this people thing sometimes.

"It's open!", she called at the knock on her door.

ashley slipped inside, and, as expected, no Dean.

"hey, you okay?" she asked, taking in kate's general mood.

"Peachy, you?" Kate drawled, glancing over at Ashley. Yeah, like that line would fool anyone.

"Better 'n you," she said, sitting on the end of the bed. "What happened?"

Kate pulled back up the driveway sometime the next morning. It was a warm sunny day already, and she could swear there were freaking birds singing and everything. Well, good night's sleep and...well, just a really good night and all.

So much for bringing the bike back before midnight though. She stowed it back in the garage, hanging up her helmet and heading upstairs for shower.

Ashley wasn't waiting up but, she did happen to be awake around midnight. She wasn't surprised when Kate didn't come home. Ashley figured either Kate was going to come home in a couple hours or the next morning.

She heard the bike roar up the drive around breakfast the next morning.

Kate wasn't sure whether she wanted to bound up to Ashley's room for the first legitimately teenage-girly style squeefest of her life...or hide from the blonde for about a week to avoid questioning.

She managed to avoid having to make the decision when she swung by the kitchen to grab a bagel and found Ashley already perched at the counter.

Ashley looked her up and down critically. "How'd it go?" she asked, completely seriously. Given the way Dean had looked Kate could have struck out and then just ridden around all night.
