I moved to Southern California one year from Washington, D.C. ... in late November driving a good size rental truck with a car trailer hitched to the back. The trick is to take the Southern route across the country--route 40, if I'm remembering it correctly. No snow that way. Of course, you'd eventually have to go north to get to SF, but you'd miss a lot of the bad weather in the middle of the country that way. FYI, if you're going to move to SF, keep in mind that everything in CA is more expensive! It's an amazing area, but it'll cost you more to live there, which you probably know! :)
