Minus the whole burning your skin aspect. I actually got a little red once from photographing one or our gels. I guess that is to be expected with my pale skin. Also, they do have DNA films with light boxes behind to get that UV lite effect (sorry travis, you aren't that original in your thought). Still too expensive though. These things cost like 940$ (but they do use your own DNA)
Oh, right, and there's that whole dying of cancer thing, too.
Your OWN DNA?! That is too cool!
On a related note, I can't believe how little bi/microbi my fellow chem grads know. I'm the only one of 15 who knew what restriction enzymes were. Even weirder, my Chinese colleague Cindy insisted that she didn't need a flu shot because, being Chinese, she is immune to North American flus. Never mind that I'm being innoculated against the Malaysian strain...and then another grad jumped in on her side, saying her DNA was too different to be recognized by our flus.
these are GRAD students? i should go for a phd with that logic! But flu shots are sort of de-bunked i am afriad. lots of them are sort of useless since they are a cocktail of antigens that we THINK will be the major cause of the flu this year. with all the mutations and evolution of disease flu shots are really hit or miss.
