Computer dies with spectacular sparkles

So I no longer have a lap top to work with. The loaner, having had enough of my noxious presence, set itself on fire and melted Q through E of the keyboard in the process. I'm actually disappointed that there was no explosion. That would have been cool. As it is, I've got to fill out this claim form and hopefully have it come out as not my fault. I ( Read more... )

Yup. I know. Compaq can be scary like that.

Holy hell. That's... a Dell product? Adding burns to bites doesn't seem like lots of fun, so I hope your fingers were far away when the fire happened.

Hee! You're the third person to ask me if it was a Dell. Do those things have some sort of combustable expiration date I'm not aware of? As for the finger, they are, thankfully intact, no burns or anything. It started doing the sparks thing while I was off grabbing munchies. Food makes everything good. *G*

((hugs)) Glad you're okay! Spontaneous combustion is always cooler when it happens to other people, I find.

What kind of loaner was it? :: eyes the HP loaner distrustfully ::

Were you able to salvage your writings?

Weell, it was a Compaq, which technically is HP now so...
But I'm sure it was a one time thing except my college roomie had the same thing happen to her laptop only without the spark. Also a Compaq. And I was able to salvage a heck of a lot. Xander is wonderfully intact thanks to you telling me about the Gmail thingy. :D A lot of Faith and Buffy/Alec is gone though. I'm really going to have to back up my crap more often. What about you? How's the writing on your end?

lolz. I don't think you'll have too much of a problem. There was less fire and more sparks coming off the thing. Pretty quick. Personally, I greatly advocate backing all things up either online or on an external hard drive. Often. The last is where things get hard cause you forget. How's the writing coming? I miss your swashbuckling fun-ness!
