Well, Arkkon is evil. This was already known. Poor Scorch dies, and that makes me sad. But then you realise its just a stupid quiz and its not real. I need a life. and a job. and many other things.

The overconfidence isn't simply role play, is it ( ... )

"Who needs healing when you can deal massive damage"? Well, massive damage does have a few useful points. For one thing, enemy defense can get overloaded to the point where healing becomes useless. But all-out offense is NEVER, *EVER* too reliable short of a definite surplus AND a lack of chance of your force's own power being used against you. You'd be so negligent of your defense that you'd probably get your ass handed to you ( ... )

An all-out attacking philosophy comes down to "kill them before they kill you", which might work in some video games (see: Sephiroth) but typically not against arena bosses.

...Hence, we panic whenever we realize our usual healer isn't playing, and try to compensate with as much damage as possible (plus minor, usually single target healing on the side).

All-out attacks don't even work in Dragon Warrior games. They're just guaranteed to get you torn up by bosses who (in)conveniently have powerful attacks to deal heavy damage, and/or stuff like Sap to leave your characters without any defensive power. And on top of that, they usually have good defenses, so you'll never kill them fast enough without overleveling.

Hmm...so you know what I'd be referring to. Heh. Sometimes, I wonder if your favorite job class is a bit overpowered. Then again, I've seen enough of the mentality to know the rational is "offense > defense". Funny thing is, Advance Wars is built with having offense favored a bit (due to being turn-based) and guess what the Broken Trio and two other COs who are also considered broken (although one of whom due to faulty mechanics and messy balance in general, but the other one rightfully so) have in common? They're DEFENSIVE COs. Granted, three of them are spammers of weak units, but that can be used defensively to halt any advances, get indirects to tear up the opposition's ( ... )

Hmm? People? Why that term? ?_?

And as for who I am? Oh, just somebody who has also been considered underskilled and had been insulted as a result. Ironically by the same certain somebody I mentioned before. (To be fair, I can be immature. But the guys you deal with should know better from experience. No, I have no interest in getting you to leave. If anything, the guys need to be taught a lesson. Of course, if you want to have some involvement with the thing involving the link that I messaged you on LJ, you're more than welcome to as long as you're friendly. Just bear in mind any alterations you want me to do to it should have some good reason backing it up. Oh, and don't tell others what I'm talking about, okay? I used private messaging for a reason.)

Oh, just in case you get bugged about being defeated in a certain tournament, well, don't worry too much about it. Losing to something cheap happens to the best of us. Though to be fair if they use some definitely cheap tactics or techniques against you, they are just admitting they're so scared of you that you just have to hold your moral ground and there's no question you would actually deserve to win. That's why when making a game I want to deter cheap techniques and strategies, and make the best tactics beatable in plenty of scenarios.

Also, you did at least make it to the finals. I don't know if it was on luck, but if it wasn't, it would at least show you to not deserve to be taken as a joke.

Of course, you'll want to keep your confidence level and balanced. Too much or too little of either isn't exactly nice.

(Oh, and why not message me on an IM service? Or you can comment on my LJ since I have you Friended. Yeah, I can expect you to say something off the topic of whichever post you respond to.)

Specs didn't keep his confidence level or balanced at all, which is why people were more than willing to resort to cheap tactics to take him down.

What a cheap excuse. Cheap tricks are for games that suck so bad that the makers really can't come up with any better, creative ways to make the game fun and challenging for the players ( ... )

Wow, massive overreaction from NH! How totally unexpected!

I'd post an actual response about how I've never pretended the arena is well-balanced (especially in 1v1s) but, y'know, whatever.
