Having been born way too late to be around for the whole Beatles "Paul is Dead" thing, I can't decide which pop music conspiracy theory is more awesome: the one where Lady Gaga is an Illuminati puppet, or the one where Andrew WK is a hired actor with an evil Lynchian doppelganger named Steev Mike!

It reminds me of the space lizards too. Honestly I'm just fascinated by how easily pop star mythology lends itself to this sort of theorizing... in a way it makes sense, because they really are these invented personas constructed by a bunch of folks and then presented as real people. Calling it a conspiracy is actually not that far from the truth, except for maybe the degree of sinister intent involved.

The big-biz/money motives behind it all IS a bit sinister, though not that convoluted. But yeah, attributing great meaning, complexity and emotional significance to larger-than-life characters who are in essence pretty vapid is a huge part of pop music stardom. It can be pretty damn enjoyable and entertaining though, especially in the case of Lady Gaga.
