Title: Wider Than the World
Fandom: The Dalemark Quartet by Diana Wynne Jones
Rating: PG
Warning(s): Massive spoilers for the entire quartet plus the Guide, obviously. These should be in chronological order, but I might have messed a couple up because I didn't check too carefully. Any references to Hobin are inspired by the Yuletide fic The Last Read more... )

OMG. YOU WROTE DALEMARK FIC. I LOVE IT. I LOVE YOU.

::calms down::

I kind of love them all but 006 about Noreth may be my topmost favorite. You gave a character that has no actual role in the books a bit of depth. Lovely.

Thank you! I've been meaning to for a while.

Wow, I thought that was one of the less well written ones. But I'm glad you liked it.

They both knew that she was inescapably mortal, but Tanamil still feels piercing, wild shock the first time he looks at Robin and realizes that she is old.

I hate you

Tanaqui's eyes burn from holding back too many tears--she is strong enough, she expected this, it is not the first; she gently covers Robin's eyes and whispers, "Spread your wings, my thrush, and follow the wind to sea."

I HATE YOU SO MUCH

I actually thought of you when I wrote the one about Robin and Tanamil. I was like, "O, Quark is not going to like this."

Thank you! By style, do you mean the present tense or the choppy, fifty sentence snippets?

I definitely plan to.

Yeah, it does. It probably helps that the books are almost like survey pieces themselves, with great expanses of time referenced for worldbuilding and background detail but not actually catalogued in the text.

How wonderful, and what a clever style!

#44 is my favourite, I wondered exactly the same thing about Hildy. I was so disapointed in her, even while understanding how she could be so foolish at that age.

#20 is perfect too. :-)
