Oh, LORD, you have a nice rant here. So glad I friended your journal! :) We think a lot alike, but you are much more articulate, lol.
WORD on everything you said on this post.
High points in my book for Pirates were Norrington, the Tea Party (including Jack's Tea Party line in the Locker, that was brill'), and Barbossa's Eye-Rolls of Awesome Snarkiness(tm).
I think they killed Norrington so he wouldn't interrupt the symmetry of three vs. three at the Parlay sequence. It would have been Three versus Four... but then, James *could* have walked away with the Pirates, ARRRR!
If they had to kill off James, at least he got to kiss her before the end. It was a good kiss, too.
I'm glad you're my friend too! And boy, it's nice of you to be so generous... but I have serious doubts about being articulate. :) I think it's more moaning and groaning with some semblance of grammar. But thank you! I am reading your AWE post and feel like we're on the same page like WOAH.
think they killed Norrington so he wouldn't interrupt the symmetry of three vs. three at the Parlay sequence. Wouldn't that be just like Ted and Terry. Symmetry at the heart of the death! Oh I could just rant all over again! *sigh*
It was a good kiss. It was a very good kiss. But it was so bittersweet. I like my healthy dose of angst, but I really wish they would have either made a bigger deal about his passing OR (preferably) let him live.
*hug* Right back! You are a sweetheart and I understand those horrid days. Believe me. You make me laugh too AND feel better since you appreciate the Norrington. Yes!
(Skipped over the Spiderman parts, 'cause I haven't seen it yet.)
I really wish that I had left once the credits started. I think I would have thought it a better movie if I had been spared that last scene. Will and Elizabeth have absolutely NO chemistry whatsoever. And I definitely agree with you on the Jack/Elizabeth stuff bein' dropped. They just expected us to forget everything that developed in the last movie so that her and Will could live happily ever after. Gross. I say it's Jack's kid anyways...
I think that was the way of giving those who lingered a "happy" ending - presuming those who lingered were intense Willabethers. (sigh) I suppose that means Elizabeth was faithful to Will for the decade's entirety. Thank the Internet Gods for fanfiction, or else I might be even more bleh.
You bring up some excellent points. I totally agree about the unresolved Jack/Elizabeth-ness. It just doesn't follow up on what they set in motion in DMC. I thought they had Norrington point out Elizabeth's reactions to Jack on purpose to build up to something later on, since he has a reputation for the rational. I also think you are right: this movie was centered around Jack and his story anymore. I can't decide if that was good or bad.
Though as you pointed out, both movies did keep me on the edge of my seat. Can't fault them for that.
Thank you, my dearest! I got your PM at GLB, too. Aww. You're the sweetest. I'm absolutely beside myself - in disbelief how we suddenly are, well, twenty. Good gracious. Just put me out to pasture. Phew.

HA! Yes, I've heard the Jack's kid arguments. Quite interesting, actually.
Enjoy Spider-man... if you dare. ;)
