So does the giraffe way sound kind of like the peanut butter???

(also, my roommate approves of your CompSci friends' answer, which is basically that my roommate is right but everyone else is okay too.)

My instinct is to pronounce the g-as-in-giraffe, but I make an effort to pronounce g-as-in-gift so as to reduce first-phoneme confusion with jpg (pronounced "jay-peg").

My roommate says g-as-in-giraffe so as to not get it confused with 'gift', but I think she's odd.
