Not going to lie... I have no children, and I would have totally taken a shift like that.

I always hated it when people played the "I get more time off and better hours than you because I have kids" card.

Having kids does not give them any special privileges. It's not your responsibility to provide for their children. I can see covering for them if their kid is sick - or some other family member, just as I expect them to cover for you if you get sick, or a family member.

Child-free and unmarried people have rights, too.

I told my manager when they started harassing me about it. He got it straightned out. One of our girls is 4 hours away from her kids - she got the same schedule as me - but don't sit there and tell me I'm selfish or wrong because I have things to do. It's first come first serve.

Eugh, that is so inconsiderate of your coworkers. It's not your problem they have children, and not having children doesn't mean you don't have family or a social life. How rude.
