7x03 A Town Called Mercy

I had been looking forward to this ep quite a lot - a Western, and written by Toby Whithouse to boot! I'm not quite sure it lived up to my expectations however.

The Good:
- Acknowledgement that Amy is a mother
- Acknowledgement of the Time War
- Setting, costumes, etc.
- The Cyborg - albeit the "twist" that he was the victim wasn't particularly shocking
- Amy pointing out that bad things happen when the Doctor travels alone. Gee, ya think??

Let's hear it for continuity!

The Meh:
- The pacing felt a little off to me. The first half seemed pretty rushed - did anyone else get this impression?
- Isaac making the Doctor town marshall. Like... okay then, hand over the badge to someone you literally just met. (And to ELEVEN of all people.)
- The parallel between the Doctor and Kahler Jex was a little forced, particularly at the beginning. The conversation later on was interesting though.
- Amy and Rory had very little to do, especially Rory.

Back to the continuity, I'd like to think the Doctor's willingness to turn Jex over to the Cyborg was building on his choice to destroy Solomon in 7x02. But... it's Moffat, so that is highly unlikely.

Overall... okay episode. I hope it improves upon rewatch, since I have enjoyed Toby Whithouse's previous work.
