The Amityville Horror (2005)
I actually watched this ages ago but forgot about it. Worth the watch purely for the eye candy that is Ryan Reynolds. I saw the original ages ago and what I remember of it this one matches completely. I never really understood that, doing a remake that's just the same. Anyway, big up to long island!

Arsenic and Old Lace
This was highly enjoyable with all it's zany hilarity. It's so charming and ridiculous. The whole bad brother story line felt like it came out of nowhere but the rest was great comedy so I accepted it. Teddy Roosevelt and the Aunts really made this one for me. Gosh! Another one fell from yellow fever!... Oh and Cary Grant helps ;)

Primal Fear
The first time I saw this I was about 11 years old. I was at a friends house whose family was a bit more "liberal" aka couldn't give a shit what their kids did... not that my mom cared really what we watched but considering this was pretty violent, sexual, etc, etc I can remember thinking "I'm not supposed to be watching this, It's great!"

For some reason, I forget the plot of 95% of the movies I see but this one has always stuck with me to a certain extent. I thought it deserved a rewatching because I was a bit fuzzy but still it all came back to me while watching. Not in a way that ruined it, just in that I'd see a scene and say Oh yeah I remember that, or just get a strong feeling something was going to happen.

I really like this movie. Great cast, great twists, etc, etc. I like it so much that I actually told my mind to shut it when I got to the end and thought "Well why would tough guy Roy ever let the archbishop make sex tapes of him if there was no Aaron" A lot of the plot & setup of the film doesn't totally make sense when you realize that Norton's character was just putting on an act of being meek and abused. Yeah, it makes sense that he'd make up this alternative identity to avert trouble and lull people into false security, but would Roy, brazen and tough, really put up with ALL that shit that led to the murders? Mmmm... I don't know. But eh, whatever. I'm willing to reason my way out of this paper bag.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Soo, who wants to watch two hours of crazy drunk people arguing?! Apparently all the top voters at IMDB. Let me say first, the acting in this movie really is superb. The two stars given are mainly for that. Aside from that though, this was a really hard movie to watch. It was basically just watching 2 crazy drunks, 1 annoying drunk and 1 boring drunk be ridiculous. There wasn't one sympathetic character, maybe Honey but even she was very hard to like. I have real trouble with those types of movies, plus, I can barely stand drunks in real life let alone those within my entertainment.

Also the one real plot point or mystery in the film, the story of their son, was all completely predictable. When there's no real storyline in a movie, that mystery can keep you hanging on but there's no real incentive to keep watching when you can predict the outcome a mile away

Splinter
A lot of reviewers on IMDB said the effects in this movie weren't great. It's a low budget horror so I wasn't expecting much. Surprisingly I found the effects to be great. There was only one point when it was a bit laughable - an amputated hand running across a shop floor. I was on the edge of my seat for the whole movie and couldn't help but yell at the TV expecting the characters to listen to me. That's two criteria that signal a good horror in my book.

The Iron Giant
This is a really sweet and funny one. It's a bit strange recognizing all the actors voices though, Jennifer Aniston, Harry Connick Jr, the dad from SLC Punk (yes I could look up his name but this is always what I'll associate him with), John Mahoney and a few others.... oh right Vin Diesel as the giant, mostly grunting and groaning. Now that's great casting!
