This movie does so well what today's horrors fail at.. suspense. There's something extremely scary about a fixed shot of a dark bedroom with an open door... just waiting for something to happen. I was on the edge of my seat for nearly the whole movie yelling "close the god damn door" because there's nothing I find freakier than an open bedroom door at night. As if it would stop the demon but it will always freak me out.
While the whole character as cameraman conceit has been done, it works well for this. Despite my annoyance at the boyfriend doing everything he shouldn't, I couldn't help feel bad for him. He and his girl seem real... and so does the demon.

(500) Days of Summer
Every once in a while I become unhealthily obsessed with a movie, actor etc. After seeing this I realized the main correlation is emotion. No matter how great or poor a movie is, if the emotions are dead on I will love it. Luckily (500) Days of Summer is both well done, quirky, enjoyable and emotionally on the mark. This movie perfectly captured the emotions of a relationship, highs and lows, the feeling of love coursing through your veins making you high down to the point where your heart is ripped out of your chest. Despite it's unconventional and fun (dance sequence!) methods, it's also the most realistic romance you'll ever see. I dated a guy who upon commencing our relationship told me he'd never loved anyone and never will.. and like Tom I said OK. I should have seen it coming but like Tom I got wrapped up in the chemistry and the high. I can relate.
Die Hard
I've actually seen this before. I probably included it in some other list... but I fell asleep for a bulk of the second act so I figure that doesn't really count. Yippee kiyay motherfucker. It's a fun action film, I enjoyed it but not much more than that.
