The reality of the fur industry

Jan 07, 2007 12:07

The really sad thing, is that this is the absolute "tamest" of this sort of film that I could find. This is happening here, in America. The ones from other countries are far worse. They are far crueler, clubbing the animals to death, even skinning them alive. I debated posting them, as well, but they were just so horrible, I couldn't even watch ( Read more... )

*puzzles* But I said the conditions here are way better than they are in other countries. Not that it could be called humane by any stretch of the imagination, but it's better than it is in Canada, Asia, and Europe. Espescially when you consider that fur from other countries that is marked here as "rabbit" "mink" or "fox" is quite possibly cat or dog fur. *shudders* They don't have the laws we have here ( ... )

*HUGS* Melissa, I think that your feelings and concerns are valid. I still think that we should look into forming some kind of group or something to help animals out, whether it be fur farms or puppy/kitten mills or abused animals. Maybe we can talk about it this weekend while you guys are here.

*hugs* Thank you, babe. I have had an epiphany as to a way to get furriers to improve conditions and treatment all on their own that appeals to their desire to make money. I'm really excited! I shall explain when I see ya.

But yeah, I'm definitely all for starting a group to help them out. One that's not as much of a hypocritical joke as PETA has become tho.

I shouldn't really encourage you, but I am going to throw out there the fact that just because someone has a different point of view from me I do not hate them. Most people would agree with that statement. In fact, there are very very few people I hate at all. I have to care very deeply for someone before I can hate them ( ... )

The comments were not about Melissa's post, they were more about the actual video and how it is meant to be inflamatory and emotionally misleading. I disagree with the video's message but not Melissa's intent. For fucks sake, I feel bad that the human race has become the virus it has on this planet, but I don't support genocide in any forms.

Extremism is dangerous, propaganda is dangerous, knowledge and discussion are always useful. This was more the spirit of my rant. I'm sorry if it didn't come across this way.

I apologize if I misread the intent of your comment.

I do agree with extreme points of view not always being in the best interest of all involved. The video was made to make a certain point of view be heard in the most emotional way possible because it is an emotional issue to those involved.

Anyhow, in the spirit of knowledge and discussion being useful, I am glad we have shared this knowledge and had this discussion.

Yeah, that was my intent. It was a video representation of the research I had done. I think a lot of the time people don't really think about how things really are until somethng like this opens their eyes.

You think about the poor little critters dying for their pelts and that's sad. You think about them living out their entire lives in tiny cages and that's sad too. But without *seeing* it for myself as I researched it, I had no idea just how bad things were.
