I just want to love Supernatural again. Is that possible?Maybe someone else can encourage you, but right now I can't. I too found myself angry and upset at where the show went starting, yes when Castiel was introduced. I didn't quit, but held on. I sat through season four of Sam being mysterious and not being given any insight as to why he was acting the way he acted. I sat through season five of Dean not forgiving Sam until Sam jumped into the Cage to make up releasing Lucifer. I actually enjoyed the first half of season six when Sam was Soulless because even if the bond wasn't there Sam had actual lines and a POV and Soulless!Sam was willing to try to behave like a moral person because Dean thought it was a good idea. Then Dean got Sam's soul back and all of Sam's experiences in The Cage and as Soulless!Sam were buried. I was encouraged when Cas finally was shown to be behaving wrongly without constant fluffing. Sera Gamble apparently planned to kill him off at the end of season seven, but when she left the plans changed. During

I don't have a tumblr account and I think I'm able to still enjoy SPN because of that. I think if I did have to scroll through pages of Dean/Castiel stuff I'd have given up ages ago. It's easier to ignore the D/C's on LJ, and I've found that a lot of wincesters aren't on tumblr for the same reason.
I can't calm your fears about the brotherly relationship, but I can say that the second half of season 8 was good from a brotherly point of view, and the last episode had some excellent Sam/Dean stuff. Plus the season as a whole had a record number of brother hugs ;-) Don't bother with the first half of season 8, it was awful and I have no clue what happened with Sam, though there was some good Dean stuff.
I really enjoyed seasons 4, 5 and 6 and felt they had strong Sam and Dean and SamnDean character stuff. I mostly ignore Castiel! Season 7 was just boring.
I would always say watch, because what people post on their tumblrs often has nothing to do with what actually's shown on screen!
