I finished a little fan-art of Princess Irene of Piers Anthony's Xanth series. Don't worry, the link is work safe, people. ^_~

I both love and loathe the series. The early books were great, but after the first 5 or so, Piers Anthony started being a real jerk. A la, he would go to conventions and tell people how stupid they were for reading the crap he wrote, and he was just going to make the books dumber and dumber, and laugh ever time he got his royalty check.

I got a chance to meet him a number of years back. My grandmother was a writter, and she attended a Florida writers symposium. He was there, and a pretty nice guy, until someone had the misfortune of mentioning his fan base. He flew off the handle after that and acted like a complete cock.. grr.

Really? In his letters he always seems like such a nice guy... he complains about the people who send in puns, but, eh. He sent me a letter written in blue ink on a card with stickers once. On the front of the card was a picture of an island and Jenny elf! It was Isle of View and babbled on about some guy who sent him stickers all the time. o_O;

He's a great pen pal. After I had found out he lived in the same state as I (At the time anyway), I thought it would be neat to write him. I mostly talked about writing styles and scuba diving, and he mostly talked about how to make it as a writer and gardening. That's one of the reasons I was so freaked out when I met him in person. I've never seen anyone pull a Shatner like that before or since.

Hehe... He critiqued one of my stories once. He said it was pretty good, but to change "slitted eyes" to perhaps "narrowed eyes."

It was nice of him to read my story and give me his professional opinion on it. ^_^; I've been writing to him since sometime in 1993 or so. The last time I wrote to him was a few months ago. I keep most of his letters. I lost a few due to moving, though.

I used to read Xanth. It's been a while since I've read pretty much anything. But I somehow got my hands on Firefly and read it and was like, OMG this is the same guy??

Hmm, I've never read that one. I want to get a copy of Pornacopia, though. ^_~

Thanks for the add, first off... :)

Second...wow...Xanth. I read a bunch of Piers' stuff a while back 9though only got through about 6 of the Xanth series). I LOVED the Incarnations series. Did have to read the one about Time twice, though, to fully understand what was happening. The Phaze series was good too. I have some of his other stuff, but haven't read it yet.

Love the art. Certainly more talented then I with the brush. Particularly like the way her leg came out, but I'm a sucker for that style of dress anyway. :)

~nods~ I like that style of dress as well. I never read all of the phaze series, only the first two. They were about the girl and the horse who could travel through demisions, right?

I loved the incarnations series. The very first Piers Anthony book I ever read was On A Pale Horse.

The one about time confused me though!

XD

The phaze one was about two worlds, Proton and Phaze. Proton was a futuristic, scientific world with robots and such. Phazewas a fantasy, magic-using realm. The two were divided by a barrier and thought uncrossable (if I remember right), till one day, someone from Proton manages to cross over by mistake and the story sort of goes from there.

Don't worry, the TIme one was really confusing. Sorta reminds me, in hindsight, of the movie Memento. The book was structured kinda like that, with things mostly happening in reverse. I really liked For Love of Evil too, where it showed that Evil really isn't, but more that he's trying to do what's right and it often gets misinterpreted.

So, do you own dresses like that?
