Apparently Adium has implemented a char count thatʼs *only* visible if you're IM'img the Twitter Bot. Thatʼs kind of dumb.

No, Iʼm saying that a char count would be very useful for more than just IM'img the Twitter Bot. For instance, I IM the Ping.fm bot instead, but I donʼt have an option to turn on the char count for that user. Instead itʼs hard-coded (apparently) for one user only, when really itʼs a feature that would be useful for a larger number of bots.
