Manners?

Is it wrong to stay in a relationship with someone when you know it isn't going to work, just because you don't want to break the person's heart? In hopes that they will break up with you just so you don't hurt them as much?

Situations like this are sort of tough. On the one hand, it's nice that you're considering their feelings but on the other hand. If you prolong it and they find out you knew it wasn't going to work and were only prolonging the inevitable that could hurt them more and come and bite you in the ass. Sometimes, it's almost better to just rip off the band aid.
