Agreed - though with the note in passing that GTA IV has two endings, each of them a solid downer, each of them in keeping with the 'tough choices' aspect they keep coming back to. (The difference is, this time it's not so clear what the choice is.)
I feel that those are very much in keeping with the story to that point, but I find it very tempting to play til just before the last mission and hold off.
Final Fantasy 9. And ten, sorta. And twelve is pretty happy The good-alignment ending from BioShock Every Mario game ever made Timesplitters 2 Jade Empire was either happy, lesbians, or lesbian threesome if I remember Mark of Chaos I can't remember the ending to Baldur's Gate but I don't think it was depressing.
Er....
Mercenaries? You get a ton of money and kill/capture the north koreans, that's gotta be a win. World of Warcraft might count (though Warcraft 3 definately doesn't).
That's all I got. I think you might have a point.
Most depressing game ever though? The Sims. Everybody dies. Including the player when they forget to eat and sleep.
