It may sound funny, but I'm very pleased you thought the chapter was brutal. I wanted Harris' death to be vicious and ugly so it left no doubt that Spike was one cold mother. Not to be messed with.

I don't want to lose sight of the killer in him, despite what's happening with Angel.

It's very film noir. The juxtaposition of having sex with Angel, going out to kill someone while he's asleep, then returning while he's still sleeping is very interesting.

As for the sex thing, I was hoping to show how Spike compartmentalizes his life. That he can kill, then hop into bed and shag without the two things being at odds for him, or feeling any remorse.

He's not prepared for the kind of impact Angel is going to have on him.
