I was in a similar position a few years back with my Grandad.. most of my family live abroad and Christie was living in Yorkshire but I lived 12 miles away and my elder sister ( and his beloved great grandchidren) 20 miles away, For 18 months I was there twice a day despite working full time and then when he was taken into hospital I spent most of my life going back and forth .. they visited once in a year .
My mother does that all the time, I gave up after a while and now translate 'your mother is declining fast, you ought to come and see her before she goes' into 'she'll be right in a couple of hours, go back to sleep'.
I'm starting to think I should only worry when the home rings and says 'She's absolutely fine, save yourself the trip ' !
I feel better now , I've just bought a new booby top and lots of chocolate ... I aim to veg out , watch trash tv and eat Frys Chocolate Creams and strawberry laces till I pass out
